Letterpress Coffee Shop & Roastery
The Letterpress Coffee Shop and Roastery is a mock venture of a restorative project of a 1920s abandoned letterpress in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge. The goal of the project was to take the vacant structure and turn it into a third place that could be enjoyed by Baton Rouge locals and visitors. The project worked through the process of precedent and ethnographic studies of coffee shops and finished with a final floorplan and sections created in AutoCAD, as well as a Photoshop rendering. For this project, I decided to create a space to relax in the present and work towards the future, while enjoying the beauty of the past. The history of the building fascinated me, and was not something I desired to abandon, therefore the design of the coffeeshop was highly inspired by the glitz and glamour of 1920's Art Deco styling.
Ethnographic Research
Information for the ethnographic research was retrieved through the direct observation of the workings of local coffee shops.
